A CHARITY based in Petersfield is set to appeal for homes to rent for Afghan refugees. The Rural Refugee Network (RRN) was launched in 2015 by Julia Newton of Bramdean with the aim of rehousing Syrian refugees.

The speed of evets in Afghanistan could see an estimated 25,000 refugee arrive in the UK before August 31.

RRN spokesman Nadia Potts said the charity was working with Hampshire County Council to provide urgently-needed homes. She said an RRN appeal to landlords willing to rent homes to new arrivals was ‘imminent’.

The county council added ‘interim’ housing may also be needed. East Hampshire District Council said it would be ‘playing its part’ in helping the refugees

The county was rapidly overrun by the Taliban after the withdrawal of UK and US forces.
