Local:
- To help refugees resettle in the UK and integrate into their communities including the provision of:
- a) – sourcing accommodation (if applicable), housing support and household items.
- b) – services key to integration, such as welcome packages (including advice on local areas), transport, English language tuition, advice and training using our network of trained Community Team volunteers.
- c) – our bespoke 1-2-1 Education and Employability programme; and
- d) – our Youth Discovery project.
- We provide a hub for local volunteers who are interested in helping support refugees and people affected by conflict.
National:
- Share best practice on a national basis with the aim of rescuing a greater number of refugees.
- Advocate and campaign on behalf of refugees, asylum seekers and unaccompanied minors with the aim to debunk myths, build bridges and ultimately save lives. This includes campaigning for refugees to be considered in national resettlement programmes and for the extension of national resettlement programmes.
- Campaign against legislation hostile to refugees, asylum seekers and other persons fleeing conflict. RRN continues to oppose the Nationality and Anti-Borders Bill – or the Anti Refugee Bill – which seeks to reduce the ways in which refugees can legally enter the UK and makes punishment of those seeking protection and refuge more likely.
- Engage with, support, and promote other organisations seeking to protect and empower refugees, asylum seekers and others affected by conflict.
How we do this
-
Where applicable, we work with County Councils, District Councils, local charity organisations, churches and other faith groups, and private landlords to source accommodation.
- We furnish these houses with soft furnishings, kitchen equipment etc. as needed.
-
We provide welcome packages to tenants with details on their local surroundings and practical advice regarding their accommodation.
Our Community Team volunteers organise events and gatherings for refugee families to help them to build a network, enjoy life in the UK and feel more integrated into the local community. RRN also introduces individuals and refugee families to wider community events and activities.
Young persons, including refugee and asylum-seeking children, can also take part in our Youth Discovery Project. This project aims to empower, nurture, and support young people by helping them connect with the local natural world.
-
We teach English through our group of trained and qualified teaching volunteers.
We work with individuals on our bespoke 1-2-1 Education and Employability programme. Run by our qualified ESOL leader and RRN Community Team volunteers, this programme provides 1-2-1 support to individuals to help them overcome barriers to work and education and to empower them to secure further study places or work experience. -
We work alongside other local charity organisations to provide holistic support and essential items to facilitate resettling including furniture, clothing, and food. We also signpost individuals to other local charity organisations, if RRN is unable to assist.
- We provide transport, training and work mentoring to meet individual refugee needs.
